Regalia Options and FAQ

Bachelor/Associate Regalia
Bachelor and Associate Graduate regalia will be available for online ordering after the semester's Grad Fair. The Undergraduate Package consists of a black gown, black mortarboard cap and tassel in the color representing your discipline.

Master's Degree

Master gowns differ from Bachelor gowns. The sleeve is oblong, square cut at the rear, and extends beyond the length of the wearer's arm. The hood consists of a satin lining in the colors of the institution awarding the degree, with a 3-inch wide velvet trim representing the wearer's field of study (and must be the same color as the tassel). The mortarboard cap is the same as the one worn by Bachelor degree recipients.

Doctoral Degrees

Doctoral gowns are black, with bell sleeves, velvet facing on the front, and three velvet bands on the arms. The hood is similar to a Master's hood, except the velvet trim is five inches wide, extends four feet in length, and has extra panels on either side that lie cape-like across the back. Doctoral candidates also wear an eight-sided velvet tam instead of mortarboard cap.

FAQ:

Q: What color are the gowns?
A:
Regalia (cap and gown) are black. The tassel color is determined by your field of study.
Q: Do I have to buy a gown?
A:
You must have a cap, gown and tassel to walk in the ceremony.

Q: How long should the gown be?
A:
The length of the gown should be between mid-calf and upper ankle.

Q: I have a Bachelor's gown, but I am getting a Master's degree. Do I need a new gown?
A:
Yes, you do. Master's gowns differ from Bachelor's gowns in style and embellishment.

Q: I am getting a Master's degree, do I need a hood and a cap?
A:
Yes, you need both the hood and the cap.
The hood's coloring and size represent the type and subject of degree earned. It consists of a satin interior lining in the colors of the awarding institution, and the velvet trim represents the color of your academic field.
Q: I know what my major is, how do I know what my "degree" is?
A: Click here
to find out what your "degree" is (a Bachelor of what?).

Q: How do I know what size to order?
A:
Students ordering online are asked to provide their height and select from a choice of weight ranges to determine the need for a "regular" or "extra large" gown for your height. Caps & tams are one size fit most.
